The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, a documentary from HBO.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, is a documentary from HBO that covers the rise and fall of Theranos. My first job out of MIT was Theranos, the blood testing company that would later go on to be worth billions before collapsing.

I worked for Theranos for less than a year, and departed after having some serious doubts about the technology they were building. At the time it was clear the company was approaching scientific research and development in a dangerously cavalier way.

Some years later the company came under scrutiny for less than accurate results using its blood testing technology. The full story can be read in the book “Bad Blood”, which uncovers many of the shady practices at Theranos, but also Silicon Valley in general.

After chatting with the production crew I decided to be a part of the documentary. Alex Gibney and his team were incredibly professional, and I am proud to be a part of this production, which shines light on Elizabeth Holmes and the disaster which is Theranos.
